HOW WIRELESS WORKS

Here is an overview of how our wireless system works. If you've ever wondered how you can be connected to the internet, send and receive e-mails and much more without some physical wire between you and the world, the following will shed some light and hopefully answer some of your questions.

Radio waves start from the Radio Transmitter. A collection of electronic components wired together create an electromagnetic signal. Data is added to this signal and together they travel up a piece of cable to the antenna. The antenna radiates the signal in free space. If you stand on a bridge and drop a rock into a pond, you'll see ripples spreading out equally in all directions. Now picture the rock, the instant it hits the water, as an antenna transmitting. That is a physical description of radio waves leaving an antenna. The reverse is true for an antenna intercepting waves from another antenna. The radio signal is unaffected by rain, snow or fog. It is one of those things that we cannot see or feel but we can create and measure.

Whether you are sending or requesting information, the speed between your location and Last Mile Wireless stay the same. (that is, 300 000 000 metres per second) Try comparing that to say, a piece of Coax Cable or even a piece of copper wire like a Phone line. By the way, all Coax cable and wire are measured against the "speed of light" and are merely a percentage of that. Speed of light of course being the fastest thing ever known to mankind. For example certain Coax Cables might have a VOP (velocity of propagation) meaning the speed at which information travels along the wire of 87%.....you get the point.

Last Mile Wireless Internet (LMWI) provides a high-speed wireless service that uses the microwave band of Frequencies. LMWI currently deploys the signal from several different locations to residence and businesses in Greater Fort Erie, Port Colborne, Wainfleet, Welland, Niagara Falls, Thorold, and surrounding area. Customers connect to this network using wireless radio modem hardware supplied by us. The signal is supported by a fiber backbone (high-speed fiber optics that connects to the internet superhighway). Most homes and businesses are connected using the outdoor Line-of-Site and non-line-of-site radio modem. We are very proud of our ability to research and have manufactured quality equipment that is both powerful and problem free...a step above all other wireless providers in the area.
